On the 1st of October, we began the last training module of the VERSA project intended to improve the Goal setting skill of our participants. We explain you how:
The soft skill
Goal setting, also known as Results Orientation, is the process of deciding what you want to achieve and devising a plan to achieve the results you want. This soft skill is also part of a meta-competence called Self Determination, playing a determinant role in the construction of the user’s identity, as well as being the main driver or support to generate behaviors to achieve something. In any goal or achievement completion, there must be a previously defined objective and linked actions.
Some of the applications of this soft skill are:
- Plan and establish objectives over time of a work project.
- Plan a getaway, trip or activity with friends or family.
- Ability to generate measurable milestones and work.
Therefore, by improving your Goal setting skill, you will be able to better plan your work and establish realistic objectives for your projects.
The video game
In order to develop this soft skill, during the next two months our participants will be playing the video game Alien Swarm: Reactive Drop, a tactical 3º person shooter for up to 4 players with a top-down perspective offering cooperative campaigns and different roles to perform. By definition, (video) games are made up of problems, missions or challenges, which end up in the completion of certain objectives or achievements, so every player shares that orientation to results, since they will always be oriented to meet such goal. The complexity of Alien Swarm Reactive Drop makes this video game the perfect tool to end a soft skills training, since each behavior of the players within the virtual world will be destined to set and meet a goal.
The coaching session
During the playing time, as always, our participants will have the opportunity to participate in a synchronous online session with the rest of the participants of his or her university to keep on developing their Goal setting ability through a fun and entertaining coaching dynamic. We will publish more information about the coaching dynamic once the module ends.
We would like to end this short post by thanking very much all the students for their participation in VERSA and welcoming them to module 8.
